Health and happiness with the power of oral medicine

26 years since opening a dental clinic in Kanuma City, Tochigi prefecture. We have been open on even Sundays and public holidays without and closed days, and have been contributing to the region, such as by becoming the first dental clinic in Japan to have an approved nursery school. At the same time, we have devised "oral growth" to eliminate the number of children with bad breathing and swallowing abnormalities, and have widely advocated the importance of viewing the development of the whole body from the mouth through publications, etc. In the future, we will further expand our realms of activity, and will strive to increase the number of people who understand the importance of 'oral growth' and preventive oral care, one person at a time.

I run a dental clinic in Kanuma City, Tochigi prefecture. We are open on Sundays and public holidays in order to preserve the teeth and mental and physical health of the Kanuma citizens and the neighboring Tochigi citizens. This is because there are people who can only come on these days. To allow for even those with financial difficulties to come to our facility. This is our main philosophy. Therefore, to have patients understand that they need to come here. This is all that it comes down to. That's why I think that it is important to carefully teach our patients who visit us, even if they come to "just do something about their painful tooth".

In Sweden, for example, no one has dental fillings. Nobody has dentures either. They have their own set of teeth even with old age. As a result, no one is bedridden. That's why they do not have an elderly care facility. On the other hand, there is data that suggests Japanese people will have on average 22 teeth pulled out by age 85. If you need dentures you will not be able to eat what you like, and it will weaken your body and mind as a result. To spread the fact that proper prevention and maintenance will get rid of the need to have teeth pulled, and that it will prevent people from becoming bedridden. This is how I am promoting the changing of the mindset. This is directly impact the patients, so I cannot put a half-effort out there. To be able to eat at your own will is a very valuable thing. This will as a result reduce nursing care, and reduce the burden on the national treasury.

It is dispensable to take care of your mouth from when you are a baby, to be able to use your own teeth throughout your whole lifetime. That is why we focused on pediatric dentistry and established a nursery school in Japan for the first time at a dental office. This is not just a childcare facility that watches your children while the parent/parents get treated, but it also plays a role as a preventive facility. If you go to the dentist's from the time you are a baby, you will not develop a resistance to it. After getting used to dental floss from a few years old, you start to feel somewhat disgusted if you do not do it. Care during the period of change from deciduous teeth to permanent teeth is important as well, and it is also necessary to properly correct the deterioration of dentition due to mouth breathing, deterioration of chewing function, and swallowing function at an early stage.

We organize various programs to teach proper care and guidance for children at our nursery school. And this initiative also creates the advantage in that data can be accumulated by constantly examining kindergarteners. From that perspective, I am confident that you cannot find many dentists who treat children everyday even if you look worldwide. Also, I recently started the Japan Oral Counselor Association. It has also been decided that we will host an "oral growth" seminar in the city for the first time in February 2019. It will be a large-scale event that will include lectures by those invited from overseas. In the future we will further increase the number of associated dental clinics, and we also intend to expand facilities that are responsible for overall body development from the mouth.

We are currently preparing to newly open a cafe at our clinic. You may wonder why, but I want to make the dentist's a fun place to go, not "somewhere I go just because". Come get your teeth checked and go home with a clean and fresh mouth Feel more beautiful and healthier. If you come here, I think that you can get a feeling similar to when you go to a sports gym and sweat, or when you get your hair done at the hairdresser.

t the cafe, we are thinking about setting up a space for a surrounding table, opening a salon and giving advice on "oral growth" for children, and offering nutrition classes for the elderly. We would provide meals and drinks because as professionals, we must also be professional in terms of food. I would like to create a place to practice and exchange information, such as what kind of snacks should be given to children to increase their jaw strength, or what kind of recipe is suitable for elderly people with weak teeth.Breathe properly. Eat properly. These things that form the basis of life are being compromised in many Japanese people To rebuild it, and to raise the awareness of its importance, and spread it throughout society.
